Fitness experts agree that a sedentary lifestyle is a recipe for poor health. Unfortunately, many Americans work at sedentary jobs and continue that inactivity into their after-work lives. We sit hour after hour, staring at a computer monitor. Some of us work in offices with no windows and breathe the same stale air over and over. We no longer walk, bend, or reach for that reference book, giving our arms and legs a good stretch. Now we just click on a word and it will take us directly to the online dictionary or reference website. In order to function at our best, we need to balance ourselves physically, mentally, and spiritually in our work and personal lives. It's no wonder we have aching backs, wrists, shoulders and necks.
Just the "exercise" of everyday life will probably earn you 4000-5000 steps per day unless you’re in a coma. The rest is up to you. If you’re a nature lover, take long walks outside or take the family on a hike. Explore one of our beautiful state parks. If the climate control of a gym is more your style, then join one. Just start moving. Find a friend to walk with. It always helps you stick to your goal when you work out with a buddy by keeping you accountable. Just start moving!
